On Saturday, October 12, St. Mark’s will be holding a Day of Giving at the Church Hal from 10 a.m. to noon to raise funds for hospitals and schools in Gaza and West Bank. We are asking the parish and public to drop by with donations in support of those in urgent need during this time when we are celebrating our good fortune at Thanksgiving.
“We are praying for peace in this region,” says the Ven. Elizabeth Northcott. “Meanwhile we need to make a commitment to helping those who are carrying out humanitarian aid. We know there are many who want to help. Taking a minute to drop by on Saturday morning, have a coffee, and make a donation can make a huge difference to people in great need.” Donations will be tax deductible.
The donations will go to a campaign led by the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), the national Anglican agency for humanitarian relief. A major focus of PWRDF’s support is the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital operating in war-torn Gaza, and in need of immediate funding to sustain medical personnel and replace equipment.
The PWRDF is also raising funds for St. Luke’s Hospital in Nablus, West Bank, as well as the Penman Clinic, serving several West Bank villages, and two schools in East Jerusalem. These institutions serve people suffering from displacement, loss of livelihood, supply shortages, travel restrictions and escalating violence.
