St Mark’s Anglican Church is ramping up a fundraising drive for four new stained glass windows by hosting a Pub Night and Singalong on Saturday, November 7th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Church Hall. The windows have been designed by Qualicum First Nation artist Jessie Recalma. Jessie also designed the roundabout sculpture at Memorial Avenue and Highway 19A at the Qualicum turnoff. Artist Nancy Joy Morrison is fabricating the design in stained glass in consultation with Jessie.
St Mark’s has taken on this project to celebrate its centenary year. As far as we know, St Mark’s will be one of only two churches in BC to have stained glass windows designed by an Indigenous artist; the other being Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver.
